What to do when Time Out doesn't work One of the most common statements we hear from parents is: "I tried time out and it doesn't work." Time out techniques are usually not specifically designed for each child. Most books about time out do not let parents know the reasons it works. Once you know how it works, it is easy to tailor your parenting efforts to the needs of your child and avoid time out "traps." Many parents experience feelings of anger and guilt when they discipline their children. Sometimes this anger and guilt causes great distress to the parent and even to the whole family. Most of the time child care givers become angry because the child's behavior continues despite anything the parent has tried. Understanding misbehavior and knowing effective strategies will eliminate the opportunities for frustration, anger, and distress. Our treatment program will be designed to the needs of your family. With an investment of your time, you can improve parenting skills, improve self-confidence, improve your child's emotional adjustment, improve your relationship with your child, create a more nurturing home environment, and reduce stress. |
